‘He needs to be incarcerated’: Former Nebraska MAGA voter rescinds support for Trump

A longtime Nebraska Republican who in the past cast his vote for former President Donald Trump has created a video in which he declares he will never back a third Trump White House bid.

The video, which was released by the Republican Voters Against Trump organization as part of its effort to highlight voters who have dropped their support for Trump, features a man identified as “Chuck” who says he broke with Trump after the former president incited a deadly riot at the United States Capitol building on January 6th, 2021.

“This was an insurrection and it was led by Donald Trump,” he says at the start of the video. “He needs to be incarcerated this.”

Chuck went on to emphasize that Trump would “never get my vote” again, while also revealing that he would vote for a Democrat for president for the first time in his life.

“I can’t believe I’m saying it but I will,” he said. “I will not ever support or vote for Donald Trump. I will vote Democrat, I will vote for Joe Biden.”

According to the New York Times, Republicans Against Trump is “planning to spend $50 million to stop him through a series of homemade testimonial videos of voters who backed him in past elections but say they can no longer support him in 2024.”

Sarah Longwell, a one-time Republican pollster who has turned on the party over its embrace of Trump, tells the Times that her focus groups have shown that videos of real-life voter testimony have proven the most effective in getting wary Trump voters to rescind their support for him.

In fact, Longwell says that he goal with the project is to build “an anti-Trump coalition” more than build a coalition of voters enthusiastic for President Joe Biden.
